STOP the HATE

Workshops

Workshops for schools and clubs.

We come to you: two interactive workshops on hate crime against LGBTIQ* people and on online hate, facilitated by two people from our team. For school classes, youth groups, clubs, public administration and the police.

Workshops

One case. Three perspectives. One goal.

Both workshops take 90 minutes and use the same method: everyone looks at the same case, but from a different role. This shows why people act differently and still want the same thing in the end. No lectures, but group work, discussion and short exercises.

Hinschauen. Handeln. (Look. Act.)

What hate crime against LGBTIQ* people is, why so much of it stays hidden and what everyone can do. The case: an anti-queer attack at a bus stop, seen through the eyes of those affected, a witness and the police.

What participants take away:

  • Recognising and understanding hate crime
  • Responding safely: three steps in an emergency and the 110 call with the 5 W questions
  • Knowing how evidence, police reports and counselling work

  • 90 minutes
  • age 14 and up
  • 9 to 24 people

Nicht wegscrollen. (Don’t scroll past.)

Anti-queer online hate: secure, report, file a complaint, speak up and protect yourself. The case: a Pride photo with hateful comments, seen through the eyes of the person affected, a reader and the police.

What participants take away:

  • Understanding online hate: offensive, against the rules or illegal
  • Securing evidence properly, reporting content and filing a police report
  • Speaking up in solidarity and protecting yourself

Both workshops can be combined into a study day of four lessons. The workshops are held in German.

Questions

Good to know.

Does anyone have to share something personal?

No. We work with fictional cases and roles. Nobody has to share their own experiences, and anyone who needs a break can take one.

What does a workshop cost?

We ask for a contribution that supports the campaign. It depends on the type of organisation; travel costs are added. We will tell you the exact amount in our offer. Tight budget? Talk to us, a workshop should not fail because of money.

Can we download the slides?

No. The workshops depend on facilitation, which is why we run them ourselves. All participants receive a handout to take home, and you are free to use the materials further down.

Can police staff take part?

Yes, of course. Because the police must investigate when they learn of a crime, we ask at the start that nobody describes their own cases with names, places and times.

Where do you run workshops?

In Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, Bremen and Lower Saxony. Other places on request.

How big can the group be?

9 to 24 people. For larger groups or several classes, we will find a solution together.
